Alchemy Story: Is It Worth It?
I never thought I would use that word before, but this game definitely deserves that description. Alchemy Story is a pretty simple gather game much like Littlewood granted you can’t build your town up like you can in Littlewood, but nonetheless. The game is peaceful. Currently the game is only in Demo and the developer has not released the full version. This is also an indie title for those of you that don’t know and it can be downloaded off of Itch.io.
Alchemy Story involves one main character Arabella and her daily mission to make potions. Every day you wake up and make potions with items you harvest in the wild, find on your farm, or harvest in your garden. For each potion you send off to your professor you are rewarded with money. The money can be used to expand your farm further thus making it easier to craft more items. Helpful tip for those just starting out, make sure you get water out of your well, you can only do it once a day. There is a small groundhog that helps run your garden named Ellie, she will need to be fed so your crops actually grow. Depending on what you feed Ellie determines your chances at “better items”, it took me a while to grow pumpkins I will tell you that much. You will also have to feed your farm animals, which you get by paying to hatch their eggs. That’s right if you want to hatch a cow egg this is your only chance. The farm animals will produce items that are very hard to come by, so unlock them early. Other than that you basically just go to sleep and harvest every day.
Graphics and Ambiance
Normally, I wouldn’t mention ambiance, but this game deserves it. The graphics of Alchemy Story are pretty simple, 3D textures. The graphics are pretty cartoony and incredibly adorable. Like you NEED to see these cows. The ambiance of the game really gives you a sense of peace. The music is just incredible and I really want to download the soundtrack to my phone. In fact the music put me at peace so much so that I felt really uneasy when it was turned off. This really is a relaxing game. I mean I forgot everything I had to do while I was playing this game. It really put me at peace.
After all that, do I really need to ask if this game is worth it? Of course I do, this wouldn’t be Ironclad Gaming without that question. Alchemy Story is definitely worth your time, and money. The developer has done a wonderful job. It is the only time a game has put me at peace, and that is saying something for sure. The game's bright graphics, simple tasks, and peaceful music will take you away to an entirely new world and I promise you will find your zen. This game probably doesn’t market itself to my demographic, but I think everyone can benefit from playing this game at least for an hour. I loved Alchemy Story and you will too. As always the game is up for demo at this link and if you have a few extra dollars then give the developer some for their efforts. Farewell Travelers.
