GuildWars 2 is a free to play MMORPG. The game features multiple different races, and 9 different classes known as professions. GuildWars 2 has gone the route of other titles, like RIft. Originally you had to purchase and download the game, but now the game is completely free. Let’s see if this pay to play game stands true as a free to play, and isn’t just another pay to win game.

Game Play

GuildWars 2 is a sequel to the original GuildWars title, which is a game I was quite fond of. GuildWars 2’s game play is pretty standard for most PC MMOs. The combat system is real time and you attacking by using the actions on your action bar. The movement in GuildWars 2 feel really slow to be honest, the most redeeming quality to movement is the fact that you can double tap W to roll forward. Movement and combat do have a lot of synergy is video games and in GuildWars 2 the movement feels sluggish. The combat system makes up for this, and maybe it was just me, but I would really like to move a little faster. Final Fantasy Online had a perfect combat system honestly, and I was hoping GuildWars 2 would be more similar to that. To my dismay it wasn’t.

As I said earlier, Guild Wars 2 features 9 different classes. 8 of which are completely free to play, but the 9th class the Revenant you have to unlock by purchasing the expansion pack. Unlocking a class via purchase is pretty standard and reasonable in a free to play game, my only issue is I couldn’t read what that class did. I had no reason to buy the Revenant as there was no readily available information about it. You guys would be proud, I actually picked something other than Ranger. Guess what I picked down below.

Questing is different. The game tells you a story rather than handing you quest after quest trying to drown your in “kill this, retrieve that” which is the kind of nonsense I hate in games. The quests are not only easy to follow, but actually really interesting. You aren’t spoon fed content, but it isn’t very difficult either.

Graphics

I think Blizzard has ruined me for graphics in MMOs. I just love World of Warcraft’s graphics so much, always have always will. Battle for Azeroth is just so nice to look at that it is hard to play other games. I checked out GuildWars 2 on medium and high settings just to make sure I could get a feel for what everyone was looking at. Honestly, I thought the game looked pretty good. Granted the game is a little aged and who knows if they have updated their graphics in that time, I am sure they have. I played the game when it came out and again today just to confirm some things. The game really is outstanding.

Ironclad Reivew

My only issue with GuildWars 2 is the movement system. I just don’t like feeling sluggish while playing a video game. The combat system also needs tweaking, but other than that the game is great. The quests and story will make you want to keep coming back. The fact that it is free to play is a big plus. You really have nothing to lose by trying to this game out. If you don’t like it then just uninstall it and forget your ever played it. The different races and classes are definitely worth checking out, and getting to create your own mini story was incredibly fun for me. Try GuildWars 2 today!
